The Shape It Chose

Some paintings arrive with a plan.

This one disagreed.

It began as a coastline.
Then I convinced myself it should become a mountain.

Several layers later, I was still trying to steer it somewhere it clearly didn't want to go.

So I stopped.

I listened again.

And slowly the painting returned to its own shape.

The ocean never follows a blueprint.
No wave repeats itself.
No shoreline asks for permission before changing.

Yet there is something deeply calming about it.

This piece became a reminder of how often we try to force people, situations, or even ourselves into a version that only exists in our heads.

And how much lighter life feels when we allow things to be what they are.

Less control.

More curiosity.

More room to be surprised.
